Presentation and Invitation
The Arturo Prat University and the National Society of Language Teachers in Higher Education (SONAPLES, Sociedad Nacional de Profesores de Lenguas en la Enseñanza Superior in Spanish) are pleased to invite researchers, academics, teachers, graduate students, and professionals involved in language teaching and learning to present their work, experiences, and reflections on the current challenges facing this field in Chile and around the world at the XXIV SONAPLES Meeting. This event will be held at the Arturo Prat University's main campus in Iquique, Chile, at Av. Arturo Prat #2120, on January 20, 21, and 22, 2027.
This space aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between applied linguistics, pedagogy, technology, public policy, and sociocultural studies, with the goal of collectively rethinking language teaching from a critical, situated, and inclusive perspective. We invite the academic and professional community to share research, teaching innovations, and classroom experiences that contribute to building a more equitable, relevant, and meaningful language education.
Themes
The call for this XXIV SONAPLES Meeting includes 3 themes and their respective subthemes:
Theme 1: Diversity, Linguistic Justice and Educational Policies
- Linguistic justice, translanguaging and decolonization
- Revitalization and preservation of ancestral languages and training of traditional educators
- Vernacular languages
- Indigenous languages, diversity, migration, inclusion and gender
- Language policies and internationalization
- Linguistic landscape, public space and disputes over the visibility of languages / Language, affectivity and reparation in contexts of linguistic loss
Theme 2: Pedagogical Innovation, Technology and Teaching-Learning Processes
- Generative AI and language learning: ethics, teaching-learning processes and evaluation
- Neuroeducation, metacognition, and empirical evidence in the classroom
- Special educational needs and language learning/teaching
- Critical literacies, multimodality and new media
- Rethinking English teaching methods: strategies for meaningful teaching in the 21st century
Theme 3: Teaching, Affectivity and Identity
- Identity, emotion and motivation: the affective turn, socio-emotional education, linguistic anxiety and agency
- Teacher development: reflective practice, teacher professionalism and ecological approach
Types of proposals
- Plenary sessions or book presentation — Duration: 45 to 60 minutes. Aimed at invited specialists with recognized experience in the thematic lines of the seminar.
- Presentations — Duration: 20 minutes of presentation plus 10 minutes of questions. Space for the dissemination of research results, advances in studies or well-founded pedagogical experiences.
- Posters — Exhibition: 3 hours. This format is especially geared towards young researchers who wish to present preliminary research findings or results.
- Workshops — Duration: 30 minutes. Practical instances aimed at the transfer of strategies, methodologies or tools applicable to the classroom.
- Round tables — Duration: 10 minutes per participant (maximum 4 participants) plus 20 minutes of questions. A space for collective discussion around a common theme, with multiple perspectives and experiences.

Abstracts must be submitted by the deadline, formatted according to APA 7th edition guidelines, via the online registration form sent to the email address indicated in this document. The proposal should not exceed 400 words and must adhere to the guidelines attached to this brochure.
